Historian gets award for Harold Cressy work
UCT historian Mohamed Adhikari will receive the UCT Social Responsiveness Award next month for his work with the Harold Cressy School community over the past 20 years.
Juta Academic donates medical reference books to Victoria hospital
On 18 September Jayde and Mabel from Juta Academic took three very heavy boxes of medical reference textbooks to Victoria Hospital in Wynberg. The books were a donation from Juta Academic who were inspired by the work done by Victoria Hospital and believed that the dedicated staff at the facility would benefit greatly from the donation.
Winners of 2012 Student2book campaign announced at VUT
Juta representatives visited the VUT campus in Vanderbijlpark in February 2012 to speak to students enrolled for Statistics related subjects offered in the Accountancy Department (Faculty: Management Science). The students were urged to take part in the competition.
Pressing for solidarity
Although scholarly books are crucial to the promotion of an academic's career, 90% of the publications the department of higher education and training accredits are journal articles. This is among the key factors that led to the launch of the National Scholarly Book Publishers' Forum during the Cape Town Book Fair in June.
A Short Life with a Long Reach into the Future: Harold Cressy
An ex-pupil of Harold Cressy High School, Mohamed Adhikari, who is now a professor in UCT’s Department of Historical Studies, put his researcher’s cap on and has put together the life story of the man after whom the school is named.
Against the Current: a biography of Harold Cressy 1889-1916 is published by Juta as a corporate social responsibility project. All proceeds from sales of the first 1000 copies are going to the Harold Cressy Bursary Fund.
Students win by supporting campaign
STUDENTS from the University of the Free State (UFS) were recently announced as being the overall winners of Juta and Company's 2012 Student2Book Ratio Campaign.
Lasting Engineering Legacy
Juta Academic launched its latest Engineering titles at CPUT (Belville) on 24 May 2012. The launch attended by the Engineering faculty featured a talk by Prof Anthony Staak, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and Mthunzi Nxawe, Juta Academic Engineering, Mathematics and Stats Publisher.
